Change: The Ever-Constant

This summer, one of the few things that has remained constant is change. New town/city, new job (well, for the summer), left coach (in search for a new one), and new phase of relationship with Adam (ENGAGED!). I am fortunate that these are all positive changes filled with opportunity. Nonetheless, change and ambiguity in every part of my life has certainly been a source of stress.

Earlier this summer at a Kraft intern breakfast, one of the senior finance leaders said to me, “In my experience, key skills for success in any pursuit are resilience and the ability to navigate change.” This quote has lingered in my mind each time I face a changing situation with no clear answer, whether in my job, my training, or my personal life. What have I found? The key to dealing with ambiguity is to take a deep breath, and let go. It’s ok not to know the answer to everything right away. Sometimes I just gotta go roll with the punches…

… And focus on the constants. On what I can control.  I am admittedly better at accepting this some days than others. I am a work in progress. But I have found that in the midst of change, my training is always there - sneakers and bike are waiting by the door and pool is always open. As I was riding Wisconsin country roads earlier this week and taking in the scenery, I couldn’t help but appreciate that the roads are always open. :)

Sun, land, sky - constants I so appreciate!
